Quick & Easy Guide to Christmas Door Decoration!

The most obvious decorations that come to mind when thinking about sprucing up the exterior of our homes for Christmas are lights. We know that some people are in the mindset of "go big or go home" but small and simple arrangements can give the same magical effect as a huge display. The important thing to remember is to carefully select each piece so that they will complement each other. Mixing and matching doesn't really work and what you'll end up with will be less elegant and homely and more Christmas outlet store on Boxing Day.

To really draw attention to your exterior decor at all times, the pieces you choose should be a combination of illuminated and non-illuminated ornaments. A simple way to achieve this is to hang some simple icicle lights or other types of LEDs around your door, and position an ornament or decoration on the door. Additionally the positioning of your lighting can bring on a whole new effect and really enhance the look by highlighting the key features of the display. For example, if you have any plants or topiary already around your home entrance, draw attention to them by adding some lights to give a nice Christmassy glow.

We've put together a quick guide to decorating your door, to show you what's available!

Christmas Lights

Lighting is not only a feature in itself but helps to bring together all elements of your decor. This means it's important to match your lighting to your colour scheme and theme, which should blend with and follow through to your interior decor. This makes for a more enchanting experience for your guests as the continuity of your decor from outside to in will really complete your home's look.

They would look great hung around your porch or door canopy and will add a nice, subtle glow to your home entrance. White lights are more classic and will go with almost any theme or colour scheme. For a more modern look try blue lights or for a more traditional Christmas feel choose red.

Aside from hanging lights like these, there are a number of pre-lit figures and ornaments you can use instead. If you would like to use both, try placing a ornament on the floor next to your door. As with any lighting or electricals, it's important to ensure that anything you places outdoors is suitable for outside use. If you don't do subtle, go crazy and put those lights wherever you feel like it! Just remember to make sure the theme and placement of each one flows together nicely.
