Styles and Glazing

There is a front door here for every kind of home. Traditional houses suit a panelled or cottage design, from the classic 6 Panel and Colonial styles to characterful cottage doors like the Suffolk and Winchester. Cleaner faces such as the Norfolk and Modica sit well on a newer build. Glazing is the other big choice. Clear glass throws the most light into a hallway. Frosted or leaded panels, as on the Westminster, Derby and Harrow, keep the light while adding privacy and period detail. Fully unglazed doors give the most solid, secure entrance of all. Choose Your Material

The other decision is the timber itself. Our oak external doors are the premium choice, with a warm tone and a deep, natural grain that brings real quality to an entrance. It suits period and character homes especially well. Our hardwood external doors are built from dense, dependable timber that handles the British weather just as well, at a friendlier price. That makes them a popular choice for a hard-working main door. Both are real wood and dowelled for strength, made to last outdoors for years once they are properly finished and cared for.

Finish and Fit

Because our front doors arrive unfinished, they need sealing before they go into service, and the right finish depends on the timber. Oak doors are best protected with a clear exterior wood oil. It soaks into the timber to guard against the weather and deepens the natural grain rather than covering it, so the door keeps its real-wood look. Hardwood doors take the same exterior oil, and can also be stained or painted if you want a specific colour. Whichever you choose, coat every face and edge, including the top and bottom, and refresh the finish every year or two. For hanging, a matching external door frame gives the door a sound, square opening and a weather-sealed threshold, and you add your own locks, handles and hinges to suit.
