Amazing Oak Doors & the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
FSC Certified Internal Oak Doors
With our oak door collection constantly expanding, sustainability is at the forefront of our mind. We try to ensure that as many of our products are FSC certified as possible! Not sure what exactly FSC certified actually means? Take a look through this blog to find out more.
Even if you don't think you know anything about sustainable wood you may still recognise the FSC logo. The FSC “tick tree” logo is a strictly controlled stamp of approval from the Forest Stewardship Council who verify the source of the wood used in our certified oak doors. The logo can be used to identify products using recycled material or wood from well managed forests so the consumer can be reassured they are not contributing to the destruction of the worlds forests.
There are two types of way a company can advertise its connection to FSC products. The first is if the company directly sells products that use FSC wood, such as our fantastic oak internal doors.
The second way a company can apply for the use of FSC logo is if it can actively prove it uses FSC products throughout its business where possible, for example only using recycled paper and sustainable wood furniture in the office.
When a company applies for an FSC license every stage of the supply chain is verified, analysed and monitored by the 'FSC Chain of Custody System'. Forest, sawmills, printers, manufacturers and distributors are audited by independent certification bodies to ensure a full and thorough understanding of a products sustainability credentials are maintained from start to finish. So you can be confident that any oak doors with the FSC logo, are thoroughly checked before approval.
The FSC also ensures that communities working with timber are protected too, and even goes as far as investigating the impact of deforestation on wildlife. The FSC ensures where possible to protect the rights of indigenous people and sacred sites within forests must be excluded from felling to remain an FSC approved forest. Coupled with this local responsibility is that the forest management must use local workers ensuring proper training, safety equipment and salary. Because of the detailed way the FSC tracks timber and wood use from forest to the market place it's logo can be seen on a huge range of products such as oak doors, flooring, decking, charcoal, kitchen utensils and even venison.
As the FSC regularly monitors every claim within the 'FSC Chain of Custody System' it means the logo is a well trusted industry standard and its widespread use by companies that don't actually sell any timber or wood products means the “tick tree” logo has become more and more recognisable. It is especially more relevant now that environmental credentials are seen as a selling point and manufacturers are being called to account for their 'eco' claims.
