Having recently added the standard prefinished Coventry Oak Door to our website, we’ve also decided to add the fire door variant here as well. The Coventry door itself features a bold design that particularly suits contemporary styled rooms.
The Coventry Oak Fire Door comes prefinished ready to be hung right away meaning you don’t have to mess about with any finished at your home. FSC certified real American white oak veneer is used to construct the door, featuring an FD30 fire rating meaning the door will keep you safe for a minimum of 30 minutes. Due to the rules of fire testing the material must be uniform and this cannot be guaranteed with solid oak doors, hence our fire doors are engineered oak rather than solid oak. To add to your peace of mind the Prefinished Coventry Oak Fire Door comes covered with the Deanta 10-year manufacturer guarantee.
Maintenance
Our products are supplied fit for purpose and unfinished (unless a pre-finished door has been ordered). As oak is a natural product, sanding and treating maybe required to achieve the perfect finish. If you have not ordered a pre-finished/treated door then we recommend that quality hardwax oils such as Treatex, Osmo, or Sikkens Polyurethane Varnish are used to seal and protect the goods and to validate your warranty.
All of our doors must be treated before they are hung, not afterwards. It is vitally important not to miss areas where the door has been cut for hinges or any other door furniture as this would allow for moisture to get into the door and spread throughout it.
Applying a stain prior to treating is known to highlight the areas where glue may have spread to the face of the door during manufacturing, particulary where veneers meet. This cannot be claimed for under warranty. A clear, hardwax oil is what should be used.
Modern oil finishes are extremely durable and hardwearing, they are very simple to apply and fast drying. Once your appropriate finish has been applied, generally very little maintenance is required. It is always advisable to cover any scratches that may occur over time. The benefit of using hardwax oil is that this is a very simple process of re-applying the finish to the affected area with a cloth.
If you're wanting to paint an unfinished oak veneer door, ideally a White Primed Door should be purchased instead. However, if you do decide to paint an unfinished oak veneer door then to comply with the door's warranty it must have an undercoat/primer and top coat which is solvent based, not water based.
As wood is a natural product it is important that it is stored correctly. We recommend that your new products are stored flat and in a dry area. We recommend that all packaging is kept on the products, or removed for inspection and then re applied for storage. Again as wood is a natural product it is susceptible to changes in each room's atmosphere and as such please be mindful of this and take care to avoid damp areas or newly plastered rooms etc. For more detailed information on how to treat you newly delivered doors click here.
Installation
This engineered door must be fitted with a minimum of 3 hinges. This is due to the weight of the product, which can be attributed to the high grade materials used in the construction of the door. Choosing to ignore this requirement will void your warranty.
Like with any other product which is there for the purpose of safety, you should check your fire door on a regular basis to ensure that it still opens and closes correctly.
You should also regularly measure the gaps between frame and door. If you have fitted fire doors to comply with regulations, it is vitally important that the gaps do not expand beyond the maximum allowed. This might happen due to a new house settling in and the stresses on the door frame altering slightly.
We always advise our customers to cover up any scratches with treatment to keep the door protected. Our hardwax oils make this an extremely straightforward process of simply applying the treatment using a cloth.
